Thanksgiving is the vaccine that prevents the Christmas gimmes.
Often, kids spend a great deal of time asking God for things they WANT.
Yet at Thanksgiving, we can remind them to thank God for all the things they already HAVE.
We can remind kids to be grateful for the obvious stuff- family, friends, favorite toys, etc.
But as faith leaders, we can challenge them to to feel gratitude on a deeper level.
The love of Christ is unmatched in human history. God & Jesus provide us with love, guidance, protection, direction, peace, and security.
This lesson cuts through all the layers. It helps children appreciate that their parents work hard to have milk in the fridge, but it also encourages them to appreciate that Jesus died on the cross for US.
When kids start to think BIGGER, they realize that they in fact have MORE THAN ENOUGH.
Happiness is rooted in gratitude, and Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to plant those seeds.
